Medical treatment of neuroendocrine neoplasms

چکیده
Medical therapy of clinically nonfunctioning (nonsecreting) low grade (grade 1–2) neuroendocrine neoplasms consists first-line first generation somatostatin analogs and second-line or third-line peptide receptor radiotherapy with radiolabeled beta-emitting analogs, Everolimus, Sunitinib, interferon-α. Second-generation like Pasireotide have no proven superiority over first-generation analogs. Chemotherapy is usually reserved as in pancreatic carcinomas.

Surgical Treatment of Liver Metastases in Neuroendocrine Neoplasms
Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a distinctive entity, and nearly 10% of patients already have liver metastases at presentation. The management of neuroendocrine liver metastases (NEN-LM) is complex with differing patterns of metastatic presentation. An aggressive approach should be used to resect the primary tumor, to remove regional lymph nodes, and to resect or treat appropriate distant m...
متن کاملCharacteristics and treatment of patients with G3 gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms.
Data on gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) G3 (well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NET G3) and neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC)) are limited. We retrospectively study patients with NET G3 and NEC from eight European centers. Data examined included clinical and pathological characteristics at diagnosis, therapies and outcomes. Two hundred and four patients were analyzed (...
متن کاملDigestive System Mixed Neuroendocrine-Non-Neuroendocrine Neoplasms.
Mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNEN) are a heterogeneous subgroup of rare neoplasms that represent about a third of all poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (PDNEC). MiNEN combine a neuroendocrine component, usually a PDNEC, and a non-neuroendocrine component, generally an adenocarcinoma, both accounting for at least 30% of the neoplasm. MiNEN are classified as h...
متن کاملPANCREATIC NEUROENDOCRINE NEOPLASMS (pNENs)
Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNENs) are relatively rare lesions that have been increasing in incidence over the past few decades largely because of the diagnosis of pancreatic incidentalomas on cross-sectional imaging. Most of these tumors are nonfunctioning presenting with symptoms secondary to mass effect, metastatic disease or as incidental findings. Diagnostic workup aims to assess ...
متن کاملHistopathology of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms
Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GI-NENs) arise from neuroendocrine cells distributed mainly in the mucosa and submucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of NENs of the digestive system was changed, categorizing these tumors as grade 1 neuroendocrine tumor (NET), grade-2NET, neuroendocrine carcinoma (large- or small-cell type),...
